Hornet Textbook Bundle FAQS

    What is the Hornet Textbook Bundle program?

    Hornet Textbook Bundle is a course material model that lowers the cost of class materials and ensures you have access to all of the required course materials on or before the first day of class. Through this new program, physical books will be conveniently packaged and provided to you on a rental basis, and digital materials will be delivered directly within Canvas. Costs will be applied as a per credit hour amount, which will be included in the tuition and fees billing statement. At the end of the term, you will receive email reminders to return your physical course materials to the bookstore.

    How does it work?

  • Register for your classes and the bookstore will start preparing your course materials.
  • One month before classes start, you will receive an email instructing you to select your delivery preference (in-store pickup or shipped directly to you).
  • An email notification will be sent when your order is ready for pickup or when it ships.
  • Your digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within Canvas.

    What is included in the program?

    The program provides all required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes and digital textbook versions.

    What is excluded from the program?

    The program does not include consumables that cannot be returned and reused such as lab goggles, lab aprons, dissection kits, math kits, calculators, nursing supplies and nursing scrubs.

    How do I enroll in the program?

    If you are eligible, you will be automatically enrolled in the Hornet Textbook Bundle program.

    Can I opt-out of the program?

    Yes, you can opt out of the Hornet Textbook Bundle at this link. The majority of students, however, will choose to participate in the program to take advantage of the affordability, accessibility and convenience that the Hornet Textbook Bundle provides.

    If you decide to opt out:

  • You will be responsible for purchasing and obtaining all of the course materials related to your course schedule.
  • You will be opted out from all of your courses for the current semester only. You will need to choose to opt out each semester that you wish to not participate.

  • Remember the opt-out option will not be live until 20 days before the semester begins.

    How do I purchase my course materials if I decide to opt-out of the program?

    You will be responsible for purchasing your required course materials through the bookstore or other sources. The bookstore accepts credit card or cash payments for all items bought outside the Hornet Textbook Bundle program. We are unable to bill directly to your financial aid for items purchased outside of the program.

    When are my textbook rentals due back to the bookstore?

    The deadline to return all rental textbooks is the last day of finals. You will receive email reminders about the rental deadline to your student email address.

    Can I buy my rented textbook?

    Yes, the program provides you with the option to purchase textbooks at a reduced rate during the return period.

    Do I need to return books if they are for a continuation course?

    Yes, you will still be required to return continuation course textbooks. You will be issued the same title for the next semester of the continuation course.

    What happens if I never verify my order?

    You will receive emails and phone calls from the bookstore to remind you to verify your order. If you do not opt-out, your materials will be held at the bookstore and your student account will be charged.

    If I never pick up my books, will I still get charged?

    Yes, if you do not opt-out, your materials will be held at the bookstore and your student account will be charged.

    What if I drop a class?

    You may return the book to the bookstore on the same terms and timelines currently in place. If you drop a class and enroll in a different class, the bookstore will “swap” the required textbooks/codes so that you have what you need.

    Can I opt-out if I picked up my textbooks?

    Yes. You will have 48 hours to return your textbooks. If you do not return the textbooks, the charges for the bundle will go back onto your ESU student account. If you choose to opt out, any materials delivered through Canvas, including digital textbooks and related resources, will not be available after the opt-out period.
