MENTOR TEACHER RESOURCES
Forms and Resources
Manuals can be found on the
Forms+Resources Page. These manuals provide information about policies, assumption of duties/roles, evaluations, Mentor Teacher responsibilities, and many other aspects of our programs.
The Impact Cycle
This process helps interns build their teaching skills in a systematic way.

Steps of the Cycle
Stage One: Identify
- Collect data through observations to paint a clear picture of strengths and areas of growth.
- Identify 2-3 areas of growth. Select the most important things to address at this moment without overwhelming the intern.
- Consider what strategies you have found success with that would address the areas of growth. See the Suggested Strategies for Supporting Interns Tab for more strategies.
Stage Two: Learn
- During the debrief, share strengths and areas of growth. Provide suggested strategies for growth.
- Consider modeling the suggested strategy in a future lesson so that the intern sees precisely how to do it.
Stage Three: Improve
- As the intern tries the strategies, continue providing explicit feedback for the identified areas of growth during conferences and evaluations.
- Once the intern is successful, restart the cycle with new areas of growth.
Three Tiers of Intern Support
Mentors can have concerns with interns for various reasons: dispositional, pedagogical or practical, and/or content knowledge. An intern might have a single concern that needs to be addressed or various concerns that need to be addressed. Similar to the tiers of the RtI process, we follow a 3-Tier System. Most interns will be successful with Tier 1, but a few may need further Tier 2 and Tier 3 assistance.
